The most desired soccer jerseys of this World Cup cost only 50 dollars, reports New York and are an idea by Mamdani
They were designed by an artist from Brooklyn and made by a small family business in Bed Stuy. A response to the extremely expensive official World Cup merchandise.
The most desired soccer jerseys in New York during these World Cup days are not the official ones but a collection priced at 50 dollars each launched by Mayor Zohran Mamdani. The idea was born to provide an alternative for those who do not want to spend crazy amounts on official merchandise: these jerseys cost just 50 dollars, practically no markup, and are sold almost at production cost. The intent is to give all citizens, from Brooklyn to the Bronx, the opportunity to celebrate the tournament without spending too much.

Curated by Brooklyn illustrator Arsh Raziuddin along with the creative team at City Hall, the collection tells the story of New York life. On the back of the shirts, there is, on the right, a pigeon, the true king of the streets of New York, and on the left, the “Bapple,” a play on words between Big Apple and Ball that combines the shape of the apple with the hexagonal pattern of a soccer ball. The color palette is also a tribute to the routine of those living in the five boroughs: there is the green of the subway lines, the yellow of taxis, the orange of Staten Island ferries, the blue of the paper cups that New Yorkers use for takeout coffee (the Anthora cup, those with the famous “Greek pattern”) and the bright red of plastic shopping bags with the “Thank You” print.
For production, the City has decided to rely on Mazzi Sports, a small family business that has been sewing soccer jerseys in Bed-Stuy, in the heart of Brooklyn, since 1986. The jerseys come in three different colors: black and white, yellow and black, and the blue and orange combination that reflects the colors of the New York flag. The collection was released on June 12 and the treasure hunt has already begun, but to prevent scalpers from buying everything to resell it at crazy prices online, the city administration decided not to sell online: the jersey can only be purchased in person at the CityStore in Downtown Manhattan.
