The French national team has decided that after every goal they score at the World Cup, One More Time by Daft Punk must play at full volume in the stadium.

In this edition of the World Cup, all the National Teams had to choose a "goal anthem." There is also an official playlist that collects them all.

One More Time by Daft Punk has been chosen as the official song to be played in the stadium every time the French national team scores a goal. This decision comes in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of Discovery. France, currently second in the world ranking and among the absolute favorites to win the Cup, played its first match on June 16, beating Senegal 3-1, and the song played three times in the stands of MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, also accompanying Kylian Mbappé’s double, obviously one of the most anticipated players of the World Cup.

The mechanism is part of the new audio content rules introduced by FIFA for the World Cup. The selection method for the songs is simple: the football federations of each of the 48 participating countries had to submit two customized tracks. The first is the goal anthem, the second is the celebratory song to be played at the end of the match in case of victory. An album has also been published on FIFA’s official page that collects all the tracks chosen by the national teams, in addition to an official tournament compilation, which includes tracks by David Guetta, Megan Thee Stallion, and Andrea Bocelli.

During the first round of group matches, 40 out of 48 teams scored, allowing fans to listen to an incredibly diverse global playlist that brings together Daft Punk, The Proclaimers, AC/DC, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. The choices mark a clear departure from the last World Cup in Qatar, where Freed From Desire by Gala became the unofficial anthem of almost the entire tournament (this year it was chosen as the official track by Switzerland). England, which debuted by beating Croatia 4-2 in Dallas, chose as its celebratory track Chase the Sun by Planet Funk, a song that fans continued to sing loudly even during the match. After the final whistle, the English celebrated to the tune of Three Lions by Baddiel, Skinner, and Lightning Seeds, while videos of the team singing Wonderwall by Oasis with the crowd quickly went viral.

Among other traditional and territorial choices, Scotland stood out with I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers, Australia with Thunderstruck by AC/DC (then using Land Down Under by Men At Work to celebrate the victory against Turkey), and the hosts USA who opted for a remix version of Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd. There were also some more unusual songs: Austria chose the dance energy of Maria (I Like It Loud) by Scooter, the Czech Republic preferred a more rhythmic and modern version of Seven Nation Army remixed by Mickie Krause, while Germany focused on 80s synth-pop selecting Major Tom by Peter Schilling. German fans listened to it seven times during the rout against Curaçao.
