Grian Chatten dei Fontaines D.C. ha fatto una cover dei Massive Attack per la colonna sonora del film di Peaky Blinders
E non solo: per il film, che uscirà nelle sale il 3 marzo e sarà su Netflix a partire dal 20, ha scritto anche due canzoni inedite.
Nella colonna sonora di Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man ci sarà anche una cover di “Angel”, dei Massive Attack, interpretata da Grian Chatten dei Fontaines D.C. Il film uscirà nelle sale il 3 marzo e sarà disponibile su Netflix a partire dal 20 dello stesso mese.
Come scrive Pitchfork, la nuova versione di “Angel” è una delle due cover dei Massive Attack presenti nella colonna sonora, che include anche una rivisitazione di “Teardrop” della cantante irlandese Girl in the Year Above. Nella stessa, notevolissima colonna sonora sono presenti anche una canzone originale di Amy Taylor degli Amyl and the Sniffers, una versione appena registrata di “Red Right Hand” di Nick Cave e anche un nuovo brano di Chatten realizzato assieme ai Lankum, “Hunting the Wren”. Il singolo principale del film, invece, si intitola “Puppet” ed è stato scritto anche questo da Chatten insieme agli storici compositori della colonna sonora di Peaky Blinders, Antony Genn e Martin Slattery (ed è già disponibile, lo si può già ascoltare).
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man riprende la storia della gang di Birmingham a partire dal 1940 (quindi pochi anni dopo il finale di stagione della serie, andato in onda nel 2022) e segue Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) mentre affronta i suoi demoni personali e “professionali” negli anni della Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Nel cast ci sono anche Rebecca Ferguson, Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle e Barry Keoghan.
Ma tornando alla musica, l’ultima collaborazione tra Fontaines D.C. e Massive Attack è stata per un disco a scopo di beneficenza, Ceasefire, pubblicato con Young Fathers nel 2023. Tutti i profitti dell’EP sono stati devoluti alle missioni di Medici Senza Frontiere nella Striscia di Gaza e in Cisgiordania. “Puppet”, invece, è la seconda nuova canzone di Chatten annunciata in altrettante settimane: il 12 febbraio, infatti, è uscito il brano “Flag”, registrato con Damon Albarn e Kae Tempest, che appare nell’album Help(2), in uscita il 6 marzo, e di cui abbiamo già parlato qui, definendolo il sogno realizzato di tutti gli amanti dell’indie rock.
