Nel suo nuovo video Lana Del Rey “omaggia” Sylvia Plath con una scena in cui mette la testa nel forno
Dandoci un indizio dei rimandi nascosti in Stove, il possibile titolo dell'album che dovrebbe uscire tra poco più di tre mesi.
Un’ipotesi: il titolo dell’album in arrivo (tra poco più di tre mesi, come lei stessa aveva annunciato nelle storie Instagram qualche giorno fa), Stove, che significa fornello, potrebbe richiamare in modo molto cupo e ironico, quindi perfettamente delreyano, il suicidio della poetessa Sylvia Plath e, al tempo stesso, le pessime doti culinarie della cantautrice: «Take my hand off the stove / Know how absolutely bad I’m with an oven». Non è la prima volta che Lana Del Rey cita Sylvia Plath: in “hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have – but i have it”, contenuta nell’album Norman Fucking Rockwell!, la nominava esplicitamente, cantando «24/7 Sylvia Plath».
«After a career spent writing paeans to deadbeats and douchebags, of course her take on true love sounds like a horror movie», scrive Walden Green recensendo la canzone su Pitchfork. E in effetti sia il brano, che a tratti sembra un po’ una formula magica o un rito vodoo, sia il video apparentemente girato nel giardino di casa e al buio, con l’aggiunta geniale della neve finta, hanno un immaginario misterioso e dark, un po’ strega, un po’ “southern gothic”, un po’ Betty Boop (che a un certo punto infatti compare, insieme ad altri vecchi cartoni animati). Anche Lana stessa sembra vittima di un incantesimo (o forse, come molte altre star, ha semplicemente avuto accesso alla versione reale di The Substance): come in tanti scrivono nei commenti, sembra di guardare un video di lei a vent’anni, quando ancora si chiamava Lizzy Grant.
In “White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter” compare anche il marito Jeremy Dufrene, a cui Del Rey dedica queste bellissime parole: «We’re a match, he’s just in my bone marrow». Presentando il singolo, che si aggiunge agli altri due già pubblicati, “Henry, Come On” e “Bluebird”, usciti rispettivamente l’11 e il 18 aprile 2025, Del Rey ha detto di essere molto contenta, soprattutto per il modo in cui è riuscita a coinvolgere la sua famiglia: oltre alla produzione e al mix di Drew Erickson, Dean Read, Laura Sisk e del fido collaboratore Jack Antonoff, anche suo cognato Jason Pickens, la sorella Chuck Grant e il già citato marito Jeremy hanno partecipato alla scrittura del brano. Il video, poi, se lo sono praticamente fatto da soli (e si vede: intendiamo, ovviamente, in senso positivo).
